MODIFIED / TRANSITIONAL WORK

   Palm Medical Group, Inc., strives to keep injured employees active in the workplace through proper utilization of modified and/or transitional work.  Rarely will the providers at Palm Medical Group, Inc., ever remove a patient from total work duties, but rather describe specifically through report dictation and associated work limitation slips, those duties that the employee can participate and continue to participate in active gainful employment. Employers are strongly encouraged to accommodate such modified / transitional work, to keep the injured employee mentally active and contributory in his or her occupational workplace. It is considered a disadvantage to place employees on total disability until "they are ready to come back at 100%," which is sometimes a common conception with employers. Such policy establishes a high level of transitional expectation,which decreases the prognosis and increased the overall level of disability time. This increased disability time equates with greater economic loss and higher Worker's Compensation insurance rates. Thus, it is strongly the advantage to both the employer and the employee to remain mentally if not physically, active in the workplace in some capacity, on either a full or part-time basis, with the utilization of modified/transitional work.
